Real Art vs Modern Art

My Art Rant. Anybody who is into modern art can go to hell because its people like you who are ruining the lives of people who worked their entire lives to portray people, wildlife, fantasy and Science Fiction as real as possible. Color tones, bone structure, shape and form. Do you realize that Modern art is putting Realistic artists out of business? Its not really a business but more of a way of life that is all they know. Trust me i know! I say to hell with the modern artists! They can rot in hell as far as I care. I have respect for artists but when they pull the crap that you see now a days and call it modern art I would like to see them fed to the sharks. Literally! If your an artist, do art for art sake and make it realistic. Not the preschool looking crap these so called professional artists are doing. The only professional artists in this world are ones who can properly replicate nature in any medium! Weather its nature in fantasy or reality. It has to be realistic… I know your going to say.. What about cartoons? Heres your answer… I dont watch Tv or Listen to the radio. because theres nothing good on. Cartoons are crap now a days. I dont see any cartoon worth watching. Sure some anime is ok but I dont really care for it. Back to the subject at hand… If you paint or sculpt, do the world and the future generations a favor and be a realist artist… Give them some idea of what real art is before its too late.

Wahid’s Mobile Bookstore – India

Amidst the smog and blaring horns of Mumbai, 9 year old Wahid sells books to support his family. Unable to read, yet dreaming of becoming a doctor, his story paints a moving picture of India today. Recommending and selling foreign books while dexterously evading the frantic pace of Mumbais traffic ensures that a Mobile Bookseller is probably the most dangerous paper-route in the world. Yet Wahid’s character shines through the hustle and bustle; an admirer of Obama, Wahid: wants to do good for everyone and become a doctor for villagers normally given fake medicines. Says as much about modern India as mans insatiable thirst for knowledge.

Modern Sculpture – Imbibing Innovation

Modern Art

Innovative, unbridled, and ungrounded talent is what truly sums up the essence of ‘Modern Sculpture.’ The era of ‘Modern Sculpture’ lasted from 1860s through the 1970s. The artists during this period, started breaking old norms, and almost reinvented the wheel in the art of sculpting. Great sculptors, such as Pablo Picasso, George E. Ohr, Peter Voulkos, and Kenneth Price, belong to this school of thought. They ventured into experimentation with fresh ideas. It is hard to express ‘Modern Sculptures’ in the terms of a characteristic style in make. They involve the creation of three-dimensional structures by the combination of disparate objects into a whole. Modern sculptors made use of various materials, like ceramics, clay, or bronze to add body and charm to their sculptures.

Later on, Modern artists began incorporating a touché of abstraction, opening the new vistas of stylized creations. Legendary artist, Picasso, unveiled his highly acclaimed work, “Chicago Picasso” on August 15, 1967 in Chicago. It is a 50 feet high, massive, abstract bronze structure, which left the viewers pondering whether the subject was a bird, horse, woman, or just a nonfigurative design. This landmark creation was a distinguished indicator of the tryst of ‘Modern Sculptors’ with bronze. Another magnificent example of this genre was “Knife Edge – Two Piece” (1962), erected near the House of Lords, London, by Henry Moore. This masterpiece became famous more for its innovative design than for its location.

Another celebrated creation dating back to 1970 was “The Thinker” by Auguste Rodin, which is an embodiment of various human emotions. Other artists of these times tried their hands at materials like clay and bronze, but some rather unorthodox maestros created sculptures out of water also. ‘Water Sculptures’ are articulately designed water fountain set in complex, yet beautiful layouts in combination with metal structures, revolutionary lighting, and musical effects. Famed artists of this cult, such as Mavis McClure, Nathan Oliveira, Robert Holmes, and Archie Held were famous for their detailed execution as well as flawless technique.

Modern sculpture imbibes in itself, various art styles, like ‘Geometric Abstraction,’ ‘DeSijl,’ ‘Suprematism,’ ‘Constructivism,’ ‘Dadaism,’ ‘Cubism,’ ‘Surrealism,’ ‘Futurism,’ ‘Minimalism,’ ‘Formalism,’ ‘Abstract Expressionism,’ and ‘Pop-Art.’ Due to the constantly evolving style of ‘Modern Sculpture,’ it has always been a great source of knowledge for budding artists. Famous sculptor Henry Moore as has justifiably described the ‘Modern Sculpture’, “The sensitive observer of sculpture must learn to feel the shape simply as shape, not as description or reminiscence. He must, for example, perceive an egg as a simple solid shape, quite apart from its significance as food, or from the literary idea that it will become a bird.”

Best Museums in New York: New Museum of Contemporary Art

Modern Art

Like the Whitney Museum, the New Museum of Contemporary Art is dedicated to innovation and newness in art. Unlike the Whitney, however, the New Museum expresses that dedication by focusing specifically on contemporary art rather than on the notion of “avant-garde.” If you’re interested in catching the work of emerging artists working on fascinating new projects the New Museum might be your ideal location to visit. Housed in a new building, which according to the architects was designed to make the shape of the interior transparent, this New York Museum has been noted by visitors and critics for the quality of light inside due to windows in unusual locations. This museum was founded in 1977, when it was the only museum of all on the New York museums list to focus on contemporary art. Over the past few years in existence at its location in the hip, artistic neighborhood of the Bowery, the New Museum New York has begun the careers of artists from countries all over the world.

Located at the heart of the Bowery, the New Museum New York is situated among a number of small galleries, museums, art house cafes and little stores in this (admittedly gentrifying) creative neighborhood. Even if it may not be affordable for most to live in any more, the Bowery nevertheless is home to a variety of fascinating locales. From the haunted Merchant House Museum to the Lower East Side Tenement Museum just around the corner, and other interesting neighborhoods in the area, visitors to this area are sure to find something interesting to do before and after their museum visit. Additionally, shopping at nearby South Broadway in SoHo provides a fun opportunity to get away from the contemporary art scene and into the contemporary fashion world. Trains to the New Museum are numerous, but the best one to take would be the J into the Bowery stop. However, other train stops near the New Museum are at Prince St., 2nd Ave – Lower East Side, Broadway-Lafayette, Grand St and Spring Street-Lexington. The lines serving these stops are the B, D, F, M, N, R, 4 and 6, so there are plenty of options for train travel to this New York museum.

As for the works of art you can see at the New Museum, the museum has hosted wonderful exhibits of contemporary art from all over the world. In the past 5 years the New Museum has exhibited art from more than countries from all corners of the earth. The wide variety make it a good chance that there is at least something that you’ll like here. If you are a fan of modern or conceptual art, you are to find the New Museum to be a worthwhile experience. The radical sculptures, paintings, and mixed media work showcased here is sure to be interesting and informative.

Because it is solely focused on showing contemporary artists, the New Museum New York is unlike many New York museums in that it doesn’t have a permanent collection. It is, like its seven-story architecture would suggest, simply a luminous space for the always changing pieces of art created by artists working today. At any given time, thousands of these works may inhabit the space of the New Museum. Because the galleries and exhibitions are always in flux, the New Museum is unlike any other museums in New York City in that you can always come back to see what’s new.

We encourage visitors of the New Museum of Contemporary Art to share their reviews, photos and videos of the museum with the broader NYC Museums community. The New Museum, more than any other on our New York museums list, is designed to spark conversation. So respond, then post your response at NYC Museums! We welcome any thoughts and feelings you might have toward a particular exhibit. Everything you share on NYC Museums helps our community enjoy the arts and culture of New York City, so share your content and help us add to the NYC Museums community.
